Why does this resort town 2 hours from Bangkok with millions of visitors annually still not have a decent private school in the city limits?
ISP pays poorly and even makes the teachers pay for their own work permits.
Most parents send their children to regular Thai schools, to the international schools 19 km and 30 km away, and some event to the neighboring province of Rayong.
This is a disgrace. If you pay teachers with peanuts, expect only monkeys.

I was teaching at an accredited international school elsewhere in SEA. I saw an ad for a teacher at this school in Pattaya. I called them up and was invited to an interview. Please note that I make $70,000 in USA and was making $2300 per month in Bangkok at NIST in 1994. I was making about $2000 per month on an overseas hire contact at another international school in SEA. So the salary was not attractive $900 per month. But I am well off financially, (real estate in Southern California) so I went ahead with the interview. Remember, they invited me. I emailed my resume.
Got to the interview and was asked if I knew about the British Key Stages regarding curriculum and I stated that I was familiar with the elementary IB program which was related but no I was an American Teacher and was most familiar with California curriculum but had used the Australian model and IB models before. I have 27 years experience and impeccable credentials and references.
Well we wanted someone familiar with the British Key Stages.
“Okay,” I said, “Give them to me to read over the weekend and I will discuss them with you on Monday”.
No we really wanted someone familiar with the British system. (Hey, why did you invite me here? To waste our time. So I put my clear glasses away, took out my sunglasses, and was back on vacation.)
Let them Brit Bloke trying to make his bar bill. The Professional Teacher is out of here.
You want real educators try Regents or ISE. Both pay better and seem more professional (although my experience with is dated about 10 years ago).
I currently reside in Pattaya and love it but international education in the city is definitely somewhat limited.

I applied for work at the international school in Pattaya several years ago. I had sent my resume and talked with the director on the phone. I had (at the time) over 10 years experience in bilingual and international schools. The pay at Pattaya was (very low) by international standards, about what MOE schools offer. Anyway at the interview suddenly the topic turned to my knowledge of the British Key Stages. I have taught American, Australian, and IB (primary program) and my resume clearly stated my background. Futhermore I had been “invited” for an interview. Midway through the interview, I loosened my tie, took off my clear prescription glasses, and put on my sun glasses. I was back on vacation.
