Managers (Thai and Farang) can often only give you details about events a day or two before it's set to go down. Plans change all the time, which is the norm for Thailand, but this company uses that as an excuse to do absolutely no work ahead of time. I was often asked to write days worth of curriculum, from nothing more than my experience and the internet. The acclaimed VLS system is an ACT database. You have students that you have to call or email at scheduled times. Typical Thai students don't answer the phone, and if they do they are more often than not unintelligible. You are then expected to grade their emails. It's not hard work, but it is painfully dull. This company is perfect for someone who wants to sit on their ass all day and surf the internet. Admittedly I had whole days where I had absolutely no assignment (used it to study for the LSAT... bonus) In the end I would just rather teach kids than put up with this bullshit. My last teaching assignment for them, I was given these instructions, prepare a 6 hours worth of lecture on answering the phone, nationalities, greetings and introductions, using 'I will' and 'I'm going to'. No level was specified. When I asked, I was told beginner intermediate. When I got to the classroom, I was faced with 40 thai adults that could barely string a "Hello, My name is Poon" together. WAIT 5 min 10 min 15 min but never mind I didn't have any other appointments for that day but what did put me off was what was happening in the room next door. A bunch of students being entertained by some young clown. Lots of hahahah hihihi and hohoho and that was basically it. Grabbed my briefcase and ran out of the building as I wasn't sure if I wanted to be Vector's next farang monkey entertainer whaterver.... Ah memories memories. I never got to the interview stage.
