I disgree. I worked with the Director for a year from 2002 - 2003 and thoroughly enjoyed my time with and the team. The facilities under his management are excellent, the classrooms clean and air-conditioned, his pupil retention rate is exceedingly high and he pays one of the best rates in Almeria. If you want additional work he has a large number of corporate clients and can offer summer holiday work in Scotland. All in all, I would recommend to anyone that they work at this location. I left after one year to come back to England and start a career in London - otherwise I would never have left.

I’m afraid the negative comments are true. Nick, it’s true that the student retention rate is good and resources are above average but as a teacher we have to look at the teacher turnover which is extremely high. The Director will have you believe in your interview that it is 50% and that teachers leave because they have other plans, sick relatives etc.. The reality is closer to 90% and I know of teachers who had worked for him but left to work at other schools in Almeria. The sad fact is that he can actually be quite decent when he wants but if he has decided he doesn’t like you, (for whatever reason) he will do everything to prove himself right; bullying if necessary.

Well, I’ve had the pleasure to work at McGinty School of English for around 3 years now.
I have found the director completely honest and impeccably fair at all times. The salary is well above average and there is additional work available if you want it.
Facilities are very good with clean, air-conditioned classrooms and ample resources.
I really am at a loss to explain the nameless negative comments on here. I suppose someone holds a grudge.
After having worked in the cut-throat, dog-eat-dog, stab-you-in-the-back world of Madrid TEFL, I can honestly say that McGinty School of English is a delight to work for.
Of course, if you think that coming to sunny Andalucia and working close to the beach etc means you can idle away your classes and abuse your position then McGinty will be no different from any other school and will, no doubt, not be too keen to renew your contract and the end of the year - this may account for some of the negative comments on here.
Yes, it’s a beautiful place and the school is modern and clean. Yes, the director is professional and fair. But, no it isn’t a holiday camp. You do have to work and actually be able to teach!
Overall I heartily recommend both the Almeria area and McGinty School of English.

I would advise that anyone considering working for Mcginty School of English in Almeria ask for references from past teachers. It will be impossible to get references from present teachers as the entire staff leave at the end, or before the end, of every school year.
