I'm the same teacher who posted the message about the dishonest head teacher. Yes I'm still there. As usual in Thailand, if you hang around long enough, you'll outlast anyone you really despise!
Overall a lot of good things are happening. The school don't generally screw you over for cash, you get paid over the holidays and the workload is sensible compared to the past. The management structure has improved immensely and there is now a fairly supportive set-up.
The education is actually pretty good, especially compared to other schools in the area. I can tell this because of the standard of students that come in from other schools when compared to our own!
I feel I'm doing something useful here rather than babysitting. This isn't a school for ESL wannabes, you teach. With the improvements noted, I recommend Somtawin to the committed teacher, and would invite backpackers and tourists to look elsewhere.

The head teacher mentioned in the comments above has left the school. The current head took over about 9 months ago, staff turnover is almost nil. There is a great atmosphere, good working environment and friendly teachers who want to work at Somtawin. A great place to work.

The current head teacher is terrible. She has no concept of the truth, she is only interested in money and having something to put on her CV. Most of the teaching staff are just praying for the day she finally leaves because she is destroying this school.
With all her plotting, scheming, backbiting and favouritism it has created divisions in the school which make it an impossible working environment and really I don't think any sensible person would want to teach there. Avoid.
