Recently I was hired via LPS to work at this school. Teaching math classes to gr.11 and gr.12 girls.
This school has enormous ammounts of useless paperwork. It also has a bit of slightly useful paperwork as well. Lots and lots of paperwork.
The girls at this school are spoiled. They will all be given a pass and they know it. Some of them couldn’t care less about learning. They are just there to chat with friends.
One day I yelled at the girls who were just being very disrespectful and deserved full well to be yelled at. I was fired for this.
Go ahead and work at this school on the condition that you don’t care about the students’ education. If you care you might find a position here unworthy of the unexceptional salary.
They are schools run by the same charity (is it really a charity?). They are certainly affiliated.
My experience working at this school hasn’t been all that bad. I find the girls to be smart and generally respectful, if a bit spoiled. But kids being spoiled is not a reason for a teacher to complain. Our jobs is to run our classrooms. As the adult in the room, I find it possible to control the girls and generally achieve the learning goals. The campus is quite nice, I get a free lunch, and it’s right on the BTS. In my humble opinion, you could do a lot worse than SJC. And the ‘agency’ that I work for, well, they’ve got positives, too. But let’s not get TOO happy-slappy on TEFLWatch now!
Some interesting comments here and after working at SJC myself I can see both sides of argument. To be perfectly honest my experience at SJC was very positive and although the girls are a bit spoilt they really just need some proper teachers to sort them out.
I agree that there is alot of useless paperwork at SJC but now i teach at a school in England i can say that working in SJC is a VERY cushy number. The money is not bad for an EP school either.
If you are not happy and want to make a big difference as a teacher…get yourself properly certified and get into an international school as suggested by David.
where to locate the St. Joseph convent school in the internet?
Frankly speaking, this comment is from St. Joseph, Koh Samui. The director there is worse. The way she spoke to the students were very rude. She just want money from the parents. I am one of the parent of the student and i heard lots of complains towards her. I am talking to some Thai parents and they don’t have a choice in sending their children to another school because what they know is, that is the best school in Koh Samui. I am suggesting to let her out from that school. Looking forward for your decision. Thank you.
This is about St. Joseph, Koh Samui
We are force to let our child study summer class and if not they will let our kid failed. So we have no choice but to enroll our child.
These two nuns there are worse especially the director. She’s very rude. Please do something for this matter.Thank you.
