Despite some negative feedback from on abroadchina.org I’ve found this place to be decent enough and have encountered no serious problems.

Star college of Harbin Normal University is a good place. However , this school has one of the worst offer and treatment for foreign teachers – computer and internet, not free:24 hours teaching for 5,000 rmb ,beginners while doctors can have 6500 ( most schools in China ask you to teach 14 – 18 hours for the same pay ): visa and residence permit ,not free: apartment is is terribly sub -standard, you’ll freeze in winter.

Star college is a good place for teaching , nice people around. However , foreign teachers don’t get surprised when you arrived the campus and talk about accommodation ( because internet and computer are not free ) , no exhaust fan in the kitchen so smell stay inside when cooking, ventilation of the toilet is terrible , good if they’ll fix it ; visa and expert certificate are not free,as well. And oh, I forgot… leaders arrogance will be your enemies… don’t try.

  4. Stephen B. says:

My current salary is 7000 RmB plus free apartment on campus and return airfare to the UK.

  5. Jim says:

I had the misfortune to teach here. Teddy, the then head of Foreign Affairs was incompetent and utterly unsupportive. Both myself and a Chinese teacher were assaulted and when the culprit tried to make out I had in fact assaulted her, she was believed over the teacher. A more craven, money-grubbing, education-averse outfit you could not wish to find anywhere. My advice is: avoid like the plague unless you have low self-esteem and enjoy being demeaned and treated like dirt by admin and students alike. Professional schools do not allow poor behaviour to go unchallenged: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....acher.html. Love yourself enough to make sure you end up in one. Do your due diligence: speak to former and/or existing teachers. If the school refuses to let you do this, that’s all the evidence you need that they are not for you. Good luck!
