The office in Pattaya is a small shophouse. It is about 4 meters wide and 16 meters deep. It is a four story buy it looks like the first 2 floors are the Text and Talk Consultancy and it looks like the 3 floor might be a computer web design company. The upper floor looks like an apartment. Once I went inside to speak to the director, he had on shorts and sandals. Immediately alarm bells sounded after all this is Thailand where face is everything. Then he proceeded to explain how that if you went to a certain consulate in Australia that you could get a one year multiple entry ED visa to Thailand and with it could leave to the border every 90 days. Needless to say I told my friend to go to another certification program that was more widely recognized. There seem to be about 4 or 5 40 somethings outside daily with books in the afternoon in sandals and shorts learning to TEFL. No idea if they are successful at placement.

Don’t believe anything they promise you if you ask for information.
The website in general is misleading to say at least.
You’ll soon find yourself working for 250 Baht an hour 7 days a week.
And the management is lacking in every possible direction.
So it’s a lot of money for a TEFL certificate you easily can get on-line for just a fraction of their price.
There are much better certification programs out there.

Well that’s my experience with Text And Talk.

I parted ways with a colleague who I worked with some 3 yrs ago in the IT Industry. I continued down the IT path and he ventured to Thailand to undertake a 6 week TEFL course at the Text and Talk academy in Bangkok, Thailand. Needless to say, he and the other 6 people all passed the course and went on to gain good teaching jobs in Bangkok. I agree that the academy do not offer jobs with a great salary upon completion, however it only takes a little looking for a better paid job, and of course you can always top up your income doing private lessons.

Three years down the line, my old friend, now 28 is having a great time.. still teaching English (4 days a week), living in comfortable accomodation, no money issues … oh and not to mention no stress! and the other guys also accredited by the Text and Talk academy are still there and teaching happily!

It goes to show that not everyone is the same and all have there own opinions.. On the good advice of my friend (and his farang colleagues) who have all passed and gained jobs with Text and Talk I will soon be signing up and taking the leap myself!

Good luck and I will post my experience(s) as soon as they happen..

Can anyone give me an update on this place. I mean can you actually get an accredited Telf certificate from here, that will enable you to be able to teach outside of Thailand.

Good place, good course, never seen anyone wearing sandals or shorts , and its possible to get work when course is completed ,Yes you can get a cheaper TEFL online but if you have no teaching experience how can you teach a class ?? At text and talk you are taught lesson planning and how to structure it plus a hell of a lot more and you get 6 evaluated teaching practices so you know what you do right or wrong. A lot of money maybe but it will at least make a shit teacher a half descent teacher with a chance to earn enough money if not a lot to stay in this great country.

Maybe the owner of this site will ban me because he might be in the pocket of Mr James Parmelee, I hope this is not the case. However I feel the need to voice my concerns to others. After deciding to move to BKK and teach I did a lot of research and this TEFL academy kept popping up on google. I read through their very informative website and then decided to give then a call. I was greeted by an older sounding gentlemen. He seemed to answer all my questions but there was always a hint of annoyance on his part like he was thinking” Who is this guy calling me and he should just accept everything I say without any questions”
Anyways after a lengthy chat about the course, visas and degrees I said I would think more about it and thanked him. Then after reading more information on this school I came across a website that offered advice to new expats in Thailand. There was a small blurb about this school, maybe two sentences. I sent an email to ask James about what was said. I received a lengthy reply about STICKMAN. Saying he is in the pockets of other schools and is not to be trusted. For the record STICKMAN said nothing really negative on his site. I dismissed the email and continued in my research. I finally decided to go with the course. I sent James an email and told him my plans. I was told right away that working part time in any job would not be permitted by him. I was told it was his way or the highway. I countered with saying he was not paying my way and I did not see any harm in taking a few classes on weekends while taking the course. I was then told one more time but I chose to ignore it. Then he told me that he would not accept me into the course. What a load of horse s**t. He gave me promises of a job after graduation and was very helpful but with an attitude all the way. But as soon as I started to ask good questions that anyone might ask when considering moving across the word I was basically told to shut up! I have the emails to prove it. SAVE YOUR MONEY PEOPLE! This guy is a manipulator!

I got my TEFL cert. from Text and Talk Academy Pattaya and got work immediately. The fact is this school has been around for longer than most in Pattaya and the local schools and businesses contact Text and Talk first when they need teachers.
I had a great time on the TEFL course and now I am super confident in planning and teaching English lessons. All my documentation was done for me and I am 100% legally staying & working in Thailand … which is more than you can say for many farangs ‘living’ here.

  9. Jack says:

No, I’m not in the pocket of anybody.

  10. Wooryum says:

I did the TEFL course with these guys, and wish I had done a Trinity TESOL or other course which would be worth the paper. I had many years teaching experience, but needed a certificate for a work permit. And that is all this course and certificate is good for.
If you want to learn something about teaching, and have a useful certificate for the future, forget about Text-and-Talk! Don’t even think about working for them either. Learn from other people’s mistakes.

If you’re not in their pockets, why did you remove the last post? Don’t readers deserve the truth?
