I parted ways with a colleague who I worked with some 3 yrs ago in the IT Industry. I continued down the IT path and he ventured to Thailand to undertake a 6 week TEFL course at the Text and Talk academy in Bangkok, Thailand. Needless to say, he and the other 6 people all passed the course and went on to gain good teaching jobs in Bangkok. I agree that the academy do not offer jobs with a great salary upon completion, however it only takes a little looking for a better paid job, and of course you can always top up your income doing private lessons.

Three years down the line, my old friend, now 28 is having a great time.. still teaching English (4 days a week), living in comfortable accomodation, no money issues ... oh and not to mention no stress! and the other guys also accredited by the Text and Talk academy are still there and teaching happily!

It goes to show that not everyone is the same and all have there own opinions.. On the good advice of my friend (and his farang colleagues) who have all passed and gained jobs with Text and Talk I will soon be signing up and taking the leap myself!

Good luck and I will post my experience(s) as soon as they happen..

Don't believe anything they promise you if you ask for information.
The website in general is misleading to say at least.
You'll soon find yourself working for 250 Baht an hour 7 days a week.
And the management is lacking in every possible direction.
So it's a lot of money for a TEFL certificate you easily can get on-line for just a fraction of their price.
There are much better certification programs out there.

Well that's my experience with Text And Talk.

The office in Pattaya is a small shophouse. It is about 4 meters wide and 16 meters deep. It is a four story buy it looks like the first 2 floors are the Text and Talk Consultancy and it looks like the 3 floor might be a computer web design company. The upper floor looks like an apartment. Once I went inside to speak to the director, he had on shorts and sandals. Immediately alarm bells sounded after all this is Thailand where face is everything. Then he proceeded to explain how that if you went to a certain consulate in Australia that you could get a one year multiple entry ED visa to Thailand and with it could leave to the border every 90 days. Needless to say I told my friend to go to another certification program that was more widely recognized. There seem to be about 4 or 5 40 somethings outside daily with books in the afternoon in sandals and shorts learning to TEFL. No idea if they are successful at placement.
